This story, told from the viewpoint of the young boy, was thoroughly engrossing. Very well written and engaging, it really made me think about the choices we make in life and how they affect those we love. It is a thought provoking story which incompasses life and eternity and how we live our lives. I was very taken with this book and really enjoyed the narrators way of telling the story while providing different viewpoints for different characters. This is one you could read again and again and still get something different out of it each time. Very good book.

I loved this book. It is now one of my favorites. This is an adventure, that will take you down a river on trip that you won't forget soon. Lief Enger shows his love for rivers throughout this story.

What a wonderful story! The narrator did an exceptional job of portraying the characters. (I listened to the Audio version) I could envision the characters so easily. Although some of the experiences were a little farfetched, I found myself laughing and crying and "living" with the family. I would definately read more stories from this author.
I liked, didn't love this book. It was captivating at times, yet other times I got lost trying to listen. The best part was the ending. It all came together nicely.
