This is number 3 in the series. I learned so much about pearl farming! The first book would be "Amber Beach" (which concentrates on amber) and the secong is "Jade Island" (which concentrates on jade) The fourth would be "Midnight in Ruby Bayou" (which concentrates on rubies). The whole series is great.
This book deals with the oldest Donovan brother, Archer.

This is the book that started my love of all things Elizabeth Lowell! In Pearl Cove I met the one member of the Donovan family and instantly wanted to know the others...soon to be met in rest of the Donovan series.

Another good story spread out just a wee bit too much, but it's still a fast read. Though I found myself wanting to smack Our Heroine into understanding that Our Hero wasn't a bad guy and she was about to lose out on a great love. And of course I learned a lot about pearls.

When Hannah McGarry asks Archer Donovan to find her husband's murderer -- and a $3,000,000 pearl necklace known as the Black Trinity -- Archer expects to land in trouble up to his lips. And does. What he doesn't expect is that he wants Hannah even more now than he did ten years ago, when she married his half-brother.

The eldest brother in one of Seattle's most powerful families, Archer Donovan is handsome, dangerous, and fascinated by pearls. He's also been in love with Hannah McGarry, his half-brother's wife, for the last 10 years. Far away in Australia, Hannah's loveless marriage ends in violence when a cyclone tears apart her pearl farm and her husband, Len, dies. But Len's death wasn't an accident; he was murdered. Desperate for help, Hannah places a call to Archer, who rushes to her side and quickly finds that powerful competitors in the pearl trade are circling Pearl Cove like buzzards.

Businessmen, criminals, and government agencies are willing to do whatever it takes to find a fabulous pearl necklace, named the Black Trinity, and to learn Len's secret formula for producing the extraordinary black pearls. Racing against time and tracked by enemies too numerous to count, Archer and Hannah begin a dangerous game of hide and seek to find Len's murderer and recover the Black Trinity. But even if the two lovers survive their adventure, will Archer find a way to convince Hannah that he's a different man from his unbalanced half-brother? And can Hannah find the courage to chance her heart and love again?

This one is about Love/murder/lusty sex scenes, and as a bonus you learn quiet a bit about harvesting growing and color content of Pearls. I found this book to be an easy read, exciting and interesting.

This was my favorite of the "Donovan" series so far. I do enjoy Elizabeth Lowell books- this one has the same knowledge base about a "treasure" (in this case pearls) and a hot romance. This love was a little hotter and the search for the pearls a little less tedious than some of her other "treasure" searches. Archer Donovan, the protagonist, was in both her previous Donovan books. He was not very likable then, but Lowell has a very subtle way of getting both the reader and the female love interest Hannah to see past that surface and at the end I really liked Archer! Definitely recommend, but I would read "Amber Beach" and "Jade Island" first!

Surrounded by potential enemies, Hannah McGarry faces the mystery of her husband's suspicious death, the prospect of bankruptcy and the disappearance of the fabulous Black Trinity necklace that was to be her financial secruity. Desperate, she calls Archer Donovan, a silent partner in Pearl Cove, her late husband's pearl farm venture, He might help her if the price is right.
Archer Donovan would rather forget he'd ever heard of Pearl Cove its memories of living on the dark side, the soul numbing certanity that there was no law, no justice, no mercy; just hunters and the hunted. That life taught him to trust no one but family. But when Hannah calls in an old debt Archer is back in the game. And at his side in pursuit of the stolen fortune is a woman he shouldn't want, yet cannot resist, a woman who may know more than she's telling about her husband's death and more than is safe to know about the dark and elusive black pearls.
