As usual, John Grisham is back with "The Pelican Brief", an irresistible story that begins with the simultaneous assissinations of two Supreme Court Justices... Late one October night Justice Abe Rosenberg, at 91 the Supreme Court's liberal legend, is shot in the head while sleeping in his Georgetown home. Two hours later Glenn Jensen, the Court's youngest and most conservative justice, is strangled, possibly by the same assassin. The country is stunned and baffled; the FBI has no clues......But Darby Shaw, a brilliant law student at Tulane, thinks she has the answer. Days of digging in the law library's computers have led her to an obscure connection between the two justices. She fleshes out her beliefs in a meticulous though wildly speculative brief that builds a strong case against a most unlikely suspect. Her suspect has powerful friends. One evening, outside a New Orleans restaurant, she narrowly escapes an assassin's car bomb. Some has read her brief. Someone wants her dead!!!!

A definate thrill. Thsi book is 10 times the movie if you saw it. Intriguing and suspenseful as Darby Shaw realizes she is the target for a murder but she must figure out why.

This is one of my favorite Grisham novels
Helpful Score: 2
Been a while since I read this one, but it was my favorite John Grisham book. The movie was ok, but in my opinion it was a somewhat feeble attempt at portraying the book. There are some complexities (storylines, character development) in the novel that just didn't translate into the movie. Even if you've seen the movie, you should read this one - the story will make more sense!

One of Grisham's best as well as one of his very early novels. Excellent and unforgettable.

Another interesting murder mystery by John Grisham. It is every bit as good as The Firm.

good story. There is enough here to make you worry about phone bugs and private eyes for many a week after reading, but it is a great book!

Some of Grisham's finest wirk. I would be hard pressed to pick out a favorite John Grisham book, but this one definitely ranks high on the list.

I just now got around to reading this great Grisham novel! Really good suspense with strong character development. Made you hate the "baddies" and cheer for the "goodies". Now I can finally rent the movie!

I enjoyed the movie so much that I wanted more details, such as only a book can give! Darby Shaw with the secret she knew and revealed in her brief has got her in such trouble.

Pretty good. Nothing like the movie, but that's not unusual. An "out to get the big bad corporate guys" book, in that way similar to Runaway Jury.

#1 bestseller (novel)author who wrote A Time to Kill and The Firm...Her only crime was the truth..two Supreme Court justices have been assissinated..

Equal to Grisham's usual tight paced page turning dramas.

Two Supreme Court justices have been murdered. A young law student takes a shot in the dark about who might have done this horrible deed and in doing so becomes the next target. Now she must try and stay alive long enough so that the killers can be exposed which isn't going to be easy since the evidence leads straight to the door of the White House. A great read

The Pelican Brief\" is a wonderful book that contains a variety of charaters and twists that I think everyone should read. This book has just about every element that makes up a good book; suspense, mystery, murder, law, and love all put together in a perfect mixture that will make your head spin. John Grisham is an awesome writer and I look forward to reading more of his fantastic novels.

Good book.
The action begins with the fierce assassinations of two Supreme Court justices. Too unlikely to be coincidental, the murders have no identifiable connection until a young law student uncovers a hidden link, exposing herself and those around her to deadly consequences. Heald uses the flexibility of his voice to conjure up a large cast of diverse characters. He crafts his delivery expertly, heightening the already substantial suspense and carrying the story to its dramatic conclusion.
I LOVE GRISHAM's WORKS! This is one of my personal favorites, but it is slightly slower than a few of his other works.
Two supreme court justices are murdered and a young law student writes a brief that sends her running for her life.
Another excellent work from Mr. Grisham, I couldn't put it down.
A John Grisham book is always good, but this wasn't my favorite. There were SO MANY CHARACTERS introducted, at least 30, that I had to start writing down who everybody was and refer back to it.
I liked it, it was a good read
An irresistible story that begins with the simultaneous assassinations of two Supreme Court Justices. A brilliant law student thinks that she has the answer which puts her in harms way. She contacts an investigative reporter and convinces him that their is a cover-up and they have to go underground, trying to stay alive long enough to expose the real truth in the Pelican Brief.
Excellent book! (Better than the movie!)
The second of John Grisham's thrilling legal mysteries! Great action and a fabulous read.
The rich plot with the non-stop action and suspense made this an entertaining page turner that I had difficulty putting down. The ending was a bit weak compared to the rest of the story. It fell short in comparison. Besides that the book was a great read.
Darby Shaw is a clever student who attends Tulane Law School. Her boyfriend is a Law Professor named Thomas. Shaw decides to find out why two US Supreme Court justices were murdered on the same day. She finds out that both Justices shared a love for protecting the environment. Then Shaw sets out to find who would benefit the most from the two deaths. She finds an industrialist who has big development plans. Then Shaw writes the Pelican Brief which is circulated by the FBI who do not put much stock in it. The brief going public tells the bad guys who Shaw is. A car bomb meant for Shaw takes out her boyfriend Thomas. The suspense mounts as Shaw is helped by Washington Post reporter Gray Grantham.
You will not be able to put this book down. Great reading!
One of his Best!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two Supreme Court Justices are killed, and a young law student at Tulane in New Orleans comes up with a theory. Once the theory is shown to the FBI & CIA, it manages to get out to others, and people start dying. Who is the one who killed the justices, and why? And why chase the student? ANd how did the word of the brief, based in the Pelican State, get out to the killer?
A very intriguing story, involved, complex, and a welcome reads compared to the other books I've been reading. If you are ready to concentrate on a story, try this one. If you want light fun reading, please move elsewhere. Enjoy!

Enjoyed Grisham's early books....
I think this book is one of Grisham's best
Far superior to the movie!
It's good, typical grisham.
Grisham does it again!! A great book and a powerful movie. Two muders in D.C. and it spurs Darby Shaw to do her own investigation.
She turns over one too many stones and becomes the focus of being eliminated.
