This book came recommended by two family members, so I had to read it. The main character is a young girl named Jenny who lives with her sister and her parents in the 1950s. Her sister Jean is about to go off to secretarial school, and she's afraid of being left to face their father alone. But then one day, Jenny Blake finds a penny and picks it up, a decision that causes a chain of events that change the course of the rest of her summer and maybe even her life.

The characters were all portrayed very realistically, and you always felt the pain or triumph of the main character. A great story of love, especially of Christ's love and it's power to renew and change us for the better.

Great read, definitely a tearjerker. Story of a girl in an abusive home and how her life changes after finding a penny. Will look for more by this author.

This was a lovely story that seems to depict the life of author Joyce Meyer very closely. I especially enjoyed the spiritual aspect of it: that God loves us, wants good things for us, and miracles do occur.

Awesome story! Both heart-wrenching and heart-warming. A book about forgiveness and how "reaching out to hurting people even in small ways helps to heal our own hurts." The message of the book is about how "Jesus sees our big hurts and our small hurts, and offers grace to heal them." A must read...

Jenny, the main character, is searching for the good in life when her young life has been so difficult. This story deals with a lot of issues that could be hard to read about but Joyce Meyer and Deborah Bedford do an awesome job of telling the story from the eyes of a girl who learns the value of faith and unconditional love. The story is so powerful. I did not want to put this book down and read the end so slowly... just so it wouldn't end!

This story is about a little girl who finds a penny and her life slowly changes in wonderful ways. She finds friends both young and old and a family that loves her more than her own. I loved it.

This book was EXCELLENT! It was a quick read -about 2-3 days and pure enjoyment. Hope there is more fiction from them in the future. Would even suggest for teen readers.

A hard read for anyone that has been abused. I found it to be a strong book that speaks to the heart. It lets people in on the thoughts of those who have gone through this type of abuse. All their struggles with "unanswered" prayers, secret lives, and emotions.

If you are sensitive to reading about incest and child molestation, this book is not for you! I found it very depressing and only read about half the book. It may have an inspirational ending, I don't know. I found it was not uplifting and was surprised Joyce went that direction.

This is a poignant novel about a young girl living in a bad situation. Thru an unlikely friend, she finds a True Friend and finally stands up to her situation. I highly recommend this book. There is a strong Christian theme, but it is fine for non-Christian readers because it is not preachy. The main character really catches your heart.

This is an emotional book about a young girl in the late '50's. Her father is abusive. The girl finds a penny and when she picks it up things start to change in her life. It has a hopeful ending but it can be hard to read as she endures some challenging times.
