Fisthand account of a people and their art. Contains interviews with quilters, some over 100 years old, and luscious photographs of the quilts themselves, as well as the quilters.
Wonderful pictures & heart-warming stories of people & their quilts. Mostly in the East Tenn. area.
I love this book. I've kept it in my library for years. If you like the history of quilts you won't be sorry if you get this. I think it has my favorite quote in it -I'd rather quilt than cook, on the hungriest day of my life".
I own this book in paperback and am hoping to get this in hardcover. John Rice Irwin is from Tennessee so the stories in the book are from Tennessee quilters. This book was written in the early 80s so most of the quilters in the book have probably gone to their rewards. I loved reading their stories. Beautiful pictures of antique quilts throughout the book.
