A DETECTIVE FACES HIS HARDEST CASE
Jonathan Stivers is a P.I. who donates his time to The Last Stand, a victims' charity in Sacramento. He's good at what he does, the best. Zoe Duncan is frantic. Her teenage daughter has disappeared without a trace. PI Jonathan Stivers is immediately on the case and clueless. Luckily (or unluckily) the reader knows who the culprit is right from the beginning. It's usually a good thing to have insight into the killer but this guy is creep city. He is a nasty piece of work and getting worse by the day. The tension racks up and the surprises (both good and bad) follow. This is an amazing book but then again, I've never read anything by Brenda Novak that wasn't impressive. She grabs you from page one and just doesn't let go until the bad guy is captured or dead. This is no different. Hold onto your hats as this one isn't easy to read. The killer is brutal and inhumane and reading some of this will turn your stomach. Just thought I'd warn ya.
Mary (BookLady) - reviewed The Perfect Couple (Last Stand, Bk 4) on
I love the writing style of this author. Normally I really enjoy her books, but this one was just too grahpic for me. A man and wife kidnap a teen and the author takes you into a world of sadistic sexual torture that I just wasn't comfortable reading. So I have a mixed review...great book, but not for me. I don't want those pictures in my head. I ended up skimming through.
