Great page turner, creepy, interesting characters, events happening all the way through keeps making you wonder how a person can be that way and rooting for the cops to 'catch them catch them'!!!!!!

The first book in the continuing Last Stand series. The bad guys in this book are truly evil. I really enjoyed this book.

This was a fast-paced but predictable thriller with way too much romance for me. I liked the premise: attractive young couple next door as murdering pair of psychos -- but the whole angle involving the "love at first glance" bit between the mother of the kidnapped girl and the private investigator hired to find her was just too distracting and took away from the suspense in the narrative.

Sam is lured away by the next door neighbors and held prisoner while her mother, Zoe, and various other characters try to find her. The action moves along well, but with no surprises. Colin and Tiffany are not the perfect couple -- they are not even perfect psycho killers. They make one mistake after another as they try to outwit the detectives and others assigned to the abduction investigation. Jonathan Stivers, the PI who donates his time to a victims' organization, is called into the case to help the police. He probably would have been better at detecting had he been less interested in Zoe and she in him. The other characters in the story are not well-developed and are stereotypes of the sadistic psychopath and the abused wife. The actual investigation is never fully explained as the police don't make any headway in finding the girl even though she is right next door. I simply felt in a hurry to get to the conclusion of the story knowing how it would all end.

All in all - not a terribly exciting mystery thriller even with the grisly details.

I really enjoy Brenda Novak's book and this was no exception. Very well written and a great storyline. She is definitely one author to read.

Chilling and suspenseful tale about a husband and wife who kidnap and murder. It doesn't get much creepier than this.

Zoe Duncan is frantic. Her teenage daughter has disappeared without a trace. PI Jonathan Stivers is immediately on the case and clueless. Luckily (or unluckily) the reader knows who the culprit is right from the beginning. It's usually a good thing to have insight into the killer but this guy is creep city. He is a nasty piece of work and getting worse by the day. The tension racks up and the surprises (both good and bad) follow. This is an amazing book but then again, I've never read anything by Brenda Novak that wasn't impressive. She grabs you from page one and just doesn't let go until the bad guy is captured or dead. This is no different. Hold onto your hats as this one isn't easy to read. The killer is brutal and inhumane and reading some of this will turn your stomach. Just thought I'd warn ya.

I love the writing style of this author. Normally I really enjoy her books, but this one was just too grahpic for me. A man and wife kidnap a teen and the author takes you into a world of sadistic sexual torture that I just wasn't comfortable reading. So I have a mixed review...great book, but not for me. I don't want those pictures in my head. I ended up skimming through.

Zoe Duncan's daughter Samantha is home with Mono. While she is out in the back yard sunning, she see's her neighbor Tiffany dishevled and talking to herself. Little does Sam know, Tiffany has just come from a blotched body dump.
Sam gets lured over to Tiffany's home and is locked in the soundproof room. She will become her husband Colin's new "pet."
Zoe searchs for Sam, unaware that she is right next door, and the perfect neighbor is helping her try to "find" Sam.
Zoe's investigator is not so easely fooled though, and Colin has to make certain he covers his tracks.
Tiffany and Colin are becomeing more and more unraveled as time goes on, and Colin's obsession with Zoe becomes the breaking point.
