I know this book was intended for a juvenile young-adult audience. I was interested to read this as I have daughters who will one day battle with WHO God has made them to be, and their need to see the beauty and purpose in each and every facet of their uniqueness. I didn't care for the style of writing, but that wasn't what "turned me off" from reading past the first few chapters... In today's watered down faux-gospel and skewed theology, it is very common to hear the Second Commandment misrepresented in the way it is in this book. "How can you love your neighbor if you don't love yourself?" You missed the point. It's not that we DON'T, it's implied that we already DO! Of course we love ourselves. Even self-pity and poor self-image is a result of turning our eyes inward instead of outward to Christ and our neighbor! Girls and women alike need to know that they are unique creations, the one and only YOU; but that they are uniquely created for service. There is great worth in knowing the truth in that. That worth is found in Christ's plan and His awesomeness as Creator... not in self-love and worshiping the creature rather than the Creator. So... the search goes on for GOOD young-adult teaching.
