The first in the series of Bad Hair Day Mysteries, featuring Marla Shore of Cut N Dye Salon in Florida, I found it quite fun to read. The beginning started off slow, and I was beginning to wonder if I would finish it or not. Many of the characters were introduced quickly and I found myself asking who is this again? (once they were referred to later on) The same thing happedned in her second book, Hair Raiser. I think if I had been consistant in reading the book, (not putting it down for a week and picking it back up) I might have better been able to follow the story better. The book just didnt grab my attention anough to hold on tight. Maybe if I was stuck on an airplane for 4 hours..... There wasnt really any humor in the story, (which I happen to like) Just your standard who-done-it mystery. I have already bought the entire series so I plan on reading them all. I will say that after I got through the first half of the book, the actions picked up, and drew me in a little better. I was totally shocked at the ending! Overall I gave it a good rating, I guess because I got so spoiled on the Bubbles Yablonski series first.

When Marla's first customer of the day dies in her perming rods Marla finds herself desperate to investigate. Mrs. Kravits (gotta love the name) is a blackmailing busybody who as it turns out has more then one enemy. When Detective Vail finds out about the blackmailing he now finds the motive behind Mrs. Kravits' death and believes Marla is the murderer.
This book sets up the start of a new series nicely. The book isn't bogged down with too many characters but does shade the lines between who is good and who isn't. Marla has a past she is trying to keep secret and Det. Vail is trying to uncover it.
I thought this book was well written and quite funny in parts. The secondary characters were interesting and I hope they have more involvement in the upcoming books.
