Persona non Grata by Ruth Downie is the third of four books in this series, about Roman military doctor, Gaius Ruso and his British housekeeper Tilla. In this adventure they receive a simple letter saying Come home! As Ruso has just broken his foot trying to save a young boy from drowning. He decides it is as good as time any to take Tilla home to meet the family, and what a family. Which consists of a spend thrift home improvement mad step-mother. His harried brother who is happily married with 5 children, 2 teenage sister one of which is madly in love with a gladiator. The dialogue has some modernisms which might put some people off but I enjoy the characters so much that I really don't care. I just down loaded the fourth book Caveat Emptor. 4 stars

A good read which keeps you off balance wondering what's coming next. It's also spiced with underlying humor dealing with the lives of the Roman citizens, slaves and one feisty female barbarian.
Once again, Ruso and Tilla combine their particular skills to uncover who's in the wrong.
