Persuasion - Larger Print Author:Jane Austen Love's Obstacles... — Years before, Anne Elliot had broken off her engagement to Captain Frederick Wentworth - who had lacked, she'd been persuaded, both fortune and character. Once again the naval officer has entered her life, rich now and successful. Is he still indignant? Can they love as before and marry? — PERSUASION, then is a story ... more »of love - but not of Anne's self-seeking search for it, apart from her English middle-class milieu. For Anne is a decent and prudent young lady with heartfelt obligations - to a spendthrift father, a snobbish sister and a pair of infernally lovable female in-laws. All impede her pursuit of happiness. And all are poked fun at, with the scintillating wit for which all of Jane Austen's social satires are justly famous.
But will Anne marry Captain Wentworth? For all the ridicule in PERSUASION, readers have cared deeply about the story's outcome since its first appearance in 1818, perhaps because, the most tender of Jane Austen's novels, it is said to be based on a romance in her own life.

It stalls in some parts, but generally, it's an incredibly interesting novel. I hate Victorian lit, and I made it through the last page, and enjoyed it.
