This was a good book, but not as scary as I expected. I thought The Taking (also by Koontz) was much, much creepier. It's very well-written nonetheless.

I've always loved reading Koontz's books. They have a way of keeping me up at night. But sometimes he disappoints with his endings and that can have a way of ruining a nicely written book. Fortunately with this book I enjoyed the ending as much as I did the whole book.
It's about a cozy little mountain town in California. Jenny and her little sister Lisa are headed to Jenny's home in this quaint little town. When they get there it takes no time for the story to go wild. The town seems quiet.. way too quiet and after a while they find that either the people in the town are dead or missing. What could have happened in that time that could wipe out the whole populace? The county sheriff and other officers show up as they try to piece together what's going on. Without giving anything away, I would have to say this was a wonderful roller coaster ride with a satisfying ended. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed reading this book because there's suspense and creepiness. I found myself wanting to finish the book right away to see what will happen in the end. Great plot and the characters are wonderful.

They found the town silent, apparently abandoned. Then they found the first body strangely swollen and still warm. One hundred fifty were dead, 350 missing. But the terror had only begun in the tiny mountain town of Snowfield, CA.
At first they thought it was the work of a maniac. Or terrorists. Or toxic contamination. Or a bizarre new disease.
But then they found the truth. And they saw it in the flesh. And it was worse than anything any of them had ever imagined....

If my memory serves me right, I think I have seen the movie of this book. Ben Affleck & Liev Schreiber were in it! Nice movie

The lights are on in Snowfield, California, a cozy ski village nestled in the Sierra Madres, but nobody seems to be home. When Dr. Jenny Paige returns to the small town, she finds tables set for dinner, meals being prepared, and music playing in living rooms, but there\'s no trace of the people who put the water on to boil or set an extra place for company at the dinner table. As she explores the town, Paige finds friends and neighbors felled by a mysterious force--the bodies show no visible signs of violence or disease, and no known plague kills victims before the ice in their dinner drinks has time to melt. But the deep quiet that surrounds her offers few clues about the fate of the town\'s inhabitants. Dean Koontz\'s Phantoms strikes fear in readers from the very beginning. The mystery deepens, paving the way for a chilling journey toward the truth.

This book had me from the beginning. It literally scared the crap out of me and I enjoyed every minute of it. The fear of the unknown compels you to want to know more. By far the best book I have read in a long time. Thank you Dean Koontz for writing such a great book.
