This is a most powerful book! It is not always easy reading because of its emotional impact, but the courage and enduring spirit throughout is truly compelling. It's a must-read true account from the Holocaust era. Don't miss it.

Just finished reading it and am still mulling what occurred in Nazi Poland. It's one atrocity after another, but somehow this true life man made it through and continued to do what he loved best - music. Great insert at the end of the book of the one German officer who actually helped him to survive.

A very moving true story about the second world war. The human spirit will rise no matter what the situation. The author lost his entire family. This story left me wondering if different paths were taken would they have had a better outcome? I would recommend this book to anyone interested in WWII.

Good read. It's hard to think of the suffering and the will to survive some went thru during this period.

Remarkable book, told by a survivor of the German occupation of Poland In world War II. It is moving, and horrible, and exposed an area of the cruelty of the Nazis I had not yet read much about. The inclusion of pf the diary of the German officer who ultimately saved him in the end adds a viewpoint from a German officer who was appalled by the atrocities, and himself saved may Jews.
