Just finished this one and recommended to mystery lovers. It starts out a little slow but hang in there - it's definitely worth it with several surprises at the end. Ladies, you'll love Nick Delessio! This one's a keeper.

Ashley Montague, rookie cop and forensic artist, gets caught up in an investigation involving a Miami serial killer and abizarre cult Ashley passes by a traffic accident and learns later that the pedestrian victim is an old friend of hers. The police dismiss the case as just another junkie jumping into traffic, but Ashley isn't satisfied. She sketches the accident scene, puzzled by the details stuck in her photographic memory, such as a cloaked figure on the roadside. Meanwhile, detective Jake Dilessio is investigating the case of a female body found in the Everglades. Five years earlier, Jake put cult leader Peter Bordon, believed to have been behind Miami-area serial murders, in jail. But the new body bears the same marks of ritual murder as Bordon's victims. Is it a copycat crime? Or is the wrong man in prison? Or is Bordon's cult still up to no good? Jake has always believed that Bordon was involved in the road accident that killed his partner five years ago. Is her accident somehow related to that of Ashley's friend? Sparks fly between Ashley and Jake as they pursue their shared obsession with the criminal mastermind.

from the back:

Ashley Montague is nearing the end of her police training-but nothing has prepared this rookie for the rite of passage that will take her on a deadly ride into the underbelly of Miami's drug world.

It begins with the shcoking discovery of a body on the highway and her glimpse of a mysterious hooded figure watching from the side of the road. Then Ashley's investigation into the incident reveals a suprising connection to another crime scene miles away.

In the heart of the Everglades, Detective Jake Dilessio stares at the mutilated body of a woman-the killing identical to those carried out by a cult leader he put behind bars five years ago. Is this a copycat or is the wrong man doing time.

The last thing Ashley and Jake want or need is the electric pull of desire as they are dragged deeper into a danderous world of corruption and conspiracy. Now, with time running out and their lives on the line, they have everything to fight for and everything to lose.

I received this book from another member and it was a fast read. I thought it was very interesting and it was only near the end that I figured it out. I thought it was a good mystery with a lot of interesting characters. The book is not new and has been well read but if you like Heather Graham you should read this one.
