Johanna Lindsey has been a favorite author of mine since I first read, "Say You Love Me". I've taken in to consideration that this book is supposedly one of her earlier writings. All in all, the book was a fair read. The plot was interesting enough but I soon tired of the interaction between Tristan and Bettina. Granted, a lot of readers were turned off by the whole "rape" thing but having been made an avid reader of historical romances after reading "The Flame and The Flower" and "The Wolf and The Dove" by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, I was able to understand that this was a theme found in quite a few romance books written during this time frame. What did bother me was that, unlike the characters in the novels I mentioned before, most of the interaction between the two main characters in this book consisted mainly of rape and the author didn't seem to take the time to show how the two developed feelings towards one another as time went on. It was more like..."I'm going to rape you." "I hate you." "I'm going to rape you". "I hate you." "I'm going to rape you." "I think I may be falling in love with you." WHAAAT???
The storyline has enough to keep you reading but one reading was enough for me. I'll not likely be pulling this one out of the bookcase again any time soon.

This was an OK read but I wasn't too keen on the "relationship" between the hero and heroine. Rape is not cool.

Johanna Lindsey is always worth reading, although this book does contain some material I thought was a little over the top. I wasn't crazy about some of the pirate's behavior. But he is a pirate after all, I guess. Some violence.

Delightful love story, lots of fun
All of Joanna Lindsay's books are great! A pirate love story, adventure, romance and intrigue!
this was a really good story altho i didnt really enjoy the beginning at all. other than that, i really love this book.
I really enjoyed this book! It is similar to her book Captive Bride which is one of my all time favorites.
I love all of Johanna Lindsey's books.
I simply love all of this authors books. Never a disappointment.
Swashbuckling pirates.. uncontrolled desires.. and denial of love all wrapped up in this book. A book i couldn't put down.
Takes a bit of patience to get into, but it's definitely not typical! Very entertaining. A good read for someone who likes a bit of meat in their reading.
I have all her books in hard back but 2, There is nothing better on a rainy night than a warm cosy fire and a Johanna Lidsey Book. They are must reads all of them over and over again. This is the book that got me hooked. Tristan is still one of my favorite heros.
I always enjoy Johanna's books. Tristan isn't always a gentle hero but he ia a pirate after all. Not one for pretty words but he is down deep a good man.
Not one of Johanna Lindseys best. The main female character falls in love with a pirate who rapes her. It is a little hard for me to understand her thinking.
Great romance read!!
I really enjoyed this book. This is one of Johanna Lindsey's earlier books. I love pirate books.
great read!
Sailing westward toward the Caribbean sun, young Bettina Verlaine is obediently setting out to fulfill a promise made by her father-a pre-arranged marriage. But it is a wedding destined not to be...
This is a readable book. Kinda cute.
A great read!
With languid tropical breezes caressing her breathtakingly beautiful face, Bettina Verlaine stood before the mast, sailing westward to fulfill a promise her heart never made-marriage to a Count her eyes had never beheld. Then in a moment of swashbuckling courage, the pirate Tristan swept her away and the spell of his passion was cast over her heart forever. But many days-and fiery nights-must pass before their love could flower into that fragile blossom a woman gives to only one man.
One of my keepers. This picture is a reissue,my book is my original copy of her book.

My book does not have the same cover as shown - it is a reissue but exactly the same otherwise.
Young Bettina Verlaine obediently sets out to fulfill the promise made by her father - a prearranged marriage destined not to be...once the notorious Captain Tristan's pirate ship appears on the horizon and she is abducted.
Another of Lindsey's bestsellers. Magical, breathtaking and unforgettable romance.
