The first novel of the author relates the friendship of a farm girl and the viscount of a rural village in England. The author gives the girls work and family dignity. They are age 13 during a summer so the girl is on the threshold of womanhood, unsentimental by a gifted story teller from Oxford, England whose characterizations are very good.
