About 15 different narrators. About 15 different locations. Time that begins in 2010 and reaches back to 1944 and forward to 2016. These are the intertwined narratives that comprise This Must Be the Place by Maggie O'Farrell. The individual chapters envelop me in the perspective being told in the chapter, but then the chapter ends, and I am pulled away to a different person, time, and place. All together, it becomes a few too many perspectives.

Story of Daniel who is married to a former megastar actress who now lives as a recluse on a remote Irish farm tending the land and homeschooling their children. He was previously married and has adult children he was estranged from for 10 years. She also has a son from a prior marriage who has a stutter. This is really the story of a combined family and a marriage - the ups and downs, the failings and the joys, the strengths and weaknesses of people. Well written so that even though the character flaws are shown you still love the characters and are rooting for them to get their act together. There was a happy ending and I would have been said if there wasn't.
