Dr. Rippe focuses on the need for balance in our lives and provides various strategies for putting our lives back into balance with three key areas: nutrition, fitness, emotional health.

His writing style is friendly and colloquial, which is quite unusual for many people with scientific backgrounds who write books of this sort. His style is also uplifting and encouraging.

There is much mention of the free web site that contains a daily planner to help with following the plan, but overall I found the site a bit clunky and just use it to easily calculate my "Balanced Life Index".

I also appreciate his focus on general overall fitness that can be done in your own home, and his focus on planning your diet around the basic food pyramid and not going on some gimmicky diet. He also stresses gradual change over a year, as opposed to a crash change in your life. I recommend this book for someone who is looking for a sensible way to make some much-needed changes in his or her life.
