British author Robert Goddard has made a successful foray into the US market and is now acclaimed by top reviewers on both sides of the Atlantic. In this meticulously written spellbinder, actor Toby Flood, playing a week's engagement in the seaside resort town of Brighton, in contacted by his soon-to-be ex-wife who is troubled by a mild sort of stalker who seems to be hanging around her shop far too often, perhaps because he is a fan of Flood's and is aware of her connection to the actor. Still in love with his wife, and hoping to dissuade her from continuing the relationship with a successful Brighton businessman with whom she is now living, Toby agrees to help, but soon finds himself in an escalating spiral of lies, decades-old family secrets, and violence.
