I love Jill McGown's Inspector Lloyd and Judy Hill mysteries and this one doesn't disappoint! As always her plots are tightly woven and everything ties together tightly at the end with no holes.

McGown writes a fine British police procedural featuring Insp. Lloyd and his pardner, Judy Hill. A couple found dead in their car are thought to have committed suicide, but Lloyd & Hill know better. A good read.

The late Ms. McGown was a skillful writer with beaucoup imagination. But this particular outing was too plot heavy for my taste, even though she did organize the action competently and manage the eighty bazillion clues well. She's playing quite a cat and mouse game with the reader, setting us up to think one thing, then pulling the rug out from under us on the next page. I was yanked around so much by the maybe-this-happened-but-then-again-maybe-it-didn't, by the time I found out whodunit, I had long ceased to care.

This is not a book for the impatient reader. At 370 pages, it seemed too long to get to the point. It's broken into different sections and timelines, and we get a deep dive into the characters lives and motives. And speaking of dives, pages of following diving instructions and other side-trips became tedious. The Cast of Characters in the front helped, but it was over 150 pages before one question I had about the half-brothers was cleared up. One plus is that there are many (many) points where you can stop since the times and places shift constantly. Nice writing, but the boring parts made me not finish it.
