As with the other "Between the Numbers" books, this book brought back Diesel and the Unmentionables, but instead of Christmas, Valentine's Day or St. Patrick's day, we got a taste of fall in Trenton, New Jersey.
What I liked best about this book, was that it is a full length novel, and Ranger and Morelli have more active roles in this book than in the previous "BTN" books, plus we got a lot more face time with Diesel.
If you have liked the other "BTN" books you will really enjoy this one as well. If you haven't read the others, I strongly suggest you read them first. They are, in order, 'Visions of Sugar Plums', 'Plum Lovin' and 'Plum Lucky'. They will help you to really understand the world of Unmentionables and Diesel.
As per usual, there were plenty of stun gun accidents, cars being destroyed, things blowing up, Lulu shooting, Grandma Mozur, funerals, the Buick, and things just generally going wonky wherever Stephanie happens to be. In other words, typical Stephanie Plum chaos insues.

This was an okay book, but as far as Stephanie Plum's go, it wasn't one of the best. I could have easily skipped it. I liked seeing more of the Tank/Lula relationship, and the whole bit with the monkeys was a riot, but overall, it just wasn't memorable.

I was surprised that this book was actually better than the last couple of stinkers that I've read in the series. I'd almost given up hope on the Plum crew after those. This book gave me a few great laughs (although none of that laughing until I cried like I experienced in the earlier novels), but the gags with the monkey ran dry after awhile and I didn't laugh at those nearly as much as I'm sure the author wanted me to. Still, it's not one of the best in the series, and even though it was good enough to keep me interested in reading future books in this series, I will only be using PBS credits to get them so I don't waste my money on a new copy.

This book reminded my of Hot Six and Seven Up...fun and a fast read!! I am glad that the author seems to have gotten back to the Stephanie Plum we all know and love! Cars get ruined, the Buick comes back out, there are monkeys coming out of the woodwork, and the men are all hot and sexy! A fun read!!

Stephanie's friend Susan leaves her Monkey named Carl on Stephanie's door step to be pet sat and Stephanie,s friend Diesel shows up to help her track down a bond jumper named Munch because Munch is hanging with Wulf who Diesel needs to find. Diesel wants to hang with Steph because her aura mixes with Diesels aura and makes it harder for Wulf to sniff out Diesel's location. But that means Stephanie ends up sharing her bed with Diesel who is just too big to be comfortable on the sofa. It is a good thing that Joe Morelli is kept busy with his messy, demanding Brother Anthony who is staying at his house and who leaves a naked woman sleeping alone in Joe's bed. Joe is just too distracted with Anthony to worry too much about Diesel and Stephanie. The story gathers speed as Munch and Wulf begin to blow up locations and Stephanie and Diesel and Carl the Monkey follow them deep into Cranberry Bog Country known as the Pine Barrens. The Barrens is home to strange characters such as Gail the animal rescue woman who has a corral full of Monkeys wearing helmets, The Bunny man and of course Munch and Wulf's hideout. Carl the monkey comes along and lets the monkeys in the corral loose and the fun begins. Oh, during all of this, Lulu decides her engagement to Tank might not be a good idea because he adopted some cats and she is allergic. A great read!
