An early Mary Balogh book. This book is surprisingly good. Characters have depth and are very believable.

One of Mary Balogh's few farces. In this one the heroine, red haired Stephanie, became a governess after the death of her parents. She had received word that she had an inheritance and because her current job was unhappy, she didn't wait for the lawyers to send a carriage for her, but took the coach. She was robbed of her money and papers, so she set out to walk the rest of the way. A troupe of kindly actors gave her a gaudy bonnet and cloak and the gentleman who picked her up assumed from her clothes that she was an actress/whore and didn't believe anything she told him, but liked her anyway.
Mary Balogh has done very few comedies but I have liked them all. I wish she'd do some more.
