In this installment of the continuing adventures of Eve and Roarke (ha!), Lt. Eve Dallas finds herself searching for a photographer killing young college students and "imaging" them directly after death. Her friend and sometime ally, Nadine, at Channel 75 is sent notes and photos of each victim (some before they are even found). As they are drawn deeper into the mind of the killer with each note, each body, Eve must unravel the threads linking the victims and their killer, before she loses one of her own.
I really enjoy the mysteries of the In Death series, but the relationships between all the characters make the story. In this book more of Roarke's past is revealed - and not just to Eve or the reader, but to Roarke himself, as well. I love watching Eve tiptoe around the minefields she encounters as she finds herself more and more involved with people who are living - and continuously confused by that fact!

Lieutenant Eve Dallas faces a serial killer who offers his victimsx eternal youth by taking their life. After a tip from a reporter, Eve finds the body of a young woman in a dumpster. Hours before, a news station had mysteriously received portraits of the woman. The pictures weren't out of the ordinary for a young woman just starting a modeling career, except she wasn't a model and the photos were taken after she was killed.
This one's a real page turner. Get your chores done before you begin to read it !

another good book by Robb! Love this series
Lieutenant Eve Dallas may live in 2059, but she's still a recognizable Manhattan police officer: mouthy, courageous, skeptical and impatient. In Roberts's latest In Death novel (after Purity in Death), she's charged with finding a killer who murders young people full of innocence and promise, photographs them after death, then taunts both a top reporter and Dallas herself with notes about his handiwork. Just as her investigation of Manhattan's clubs and colleges nears its peak, Eve's husband, the wealthy entrepreneur Roarke, discovers that his mother is not the cold abandoner he remembers, but a tender young Irishwoman whom his father brutally murdered. While he struggles to understand his heritage, the couple must navigate stormy marital waters. Though the mystery's denouement doesn't live up to its promise, the book ably delivers on other fronts. Intensely female yet unfeminine in any traditional sense, Dallas has a complex edge that transcends genre stereotypes and gives the book's romantic interludes a real charge. As always in Roberts's work, appealing secondary characters add genuine warmth and humor. And while this futuristic vision of New York may not be totally accurate (it's unlikely, for example, that Dallas's oft-used "bite me" will still be in vogue 50 years from now), it's perfectly calibrated to intrigue.
Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb. I don't read her books but a lot of people really enjoy them a lot.

Pick up any one of these Robb books and you'll want to read the entire series. Eve Dallas is the best!
Eve Dallas finds the body of a young woman in a dumpster on Delancy Street. Just hours before the news station had mysteriously recieved a portfolio of professional portraits of the woman. The photos were taken after her murder.
A series of books written by Nora Roberts under the pen name of JD Robb. The year is 2059 and Eve Dallas, police officer is trying to find a serial murderer. I really enjoyed this book, it is exciting and fun with the futuristic twists.
I'm addicted to the Eve Dallas series and this one does not disappoint!

More classic Eve Dallas - Nora Roberts is a talented and prolific writer.

The series is about a police officer named Eve Dallas and it takes place in the 2050's. Awsome series.

After a tip from a reporter, Eve Dallas finds the body of a young woman in a dumpster on Delany street. Just hours before the news station had mysteriously recieved a portfolio of professional portraits of the woman. The photos seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary for any pretty young woman starting a modeling career.Except she wasn't a model. And the photos were taken after she was murdered.
Now Eve is on the tail of a killer who's a perfectioist and an artist. He carefully observes and records his victims every move. And he has a mission: to own every beautiful young woman's innocence, to capture their youth and vitality-in one fateful shot...

A novel in the futuristic series. Detective Eve Dallas is on the trail of a sadistic serial killer with a sick and twisted talent for photography. The murderer's M.O. is stalking young, vibrant people in the prime of their lives then killing them quickly and painlessly. He photographs his victims before and after their murders and taunts the media with the pictures!

The J.D. Robb series is the best!
If you don't care for Nora Roberts BUT love Mystery/Dark Thrillers with a side of romance and a dash of comedy - then I think you'll love J.D. Robb's ... In Death series written by Nora Roberts alter ego.
I won't go into the details of the books but will tell you this: Superb character development, continuity of the story line (which means you really need to read the books in order although they can stand alone) is top notch, the relationships that are webbed and weaved together throughout each page are phenomenal and let's the reader 'really' get to know the characters.
Here's a list of all the books in order (I'm leaving off the 'In Death' part):
1 Naked
2 Glory

this is an interesting book in the series and involves some of the other characters more, like Baxter, Peabody and Truheart. If you like photography, you'll be especially interested.
I am a Roberts/Robb fan and I love anything she writes. Portrait in Death was a page turner that I could not put down. Loved it.
I love powerful Lt. Eve Dallas and how the complex New York City crimes are solved. If you don't wanna bite her husband, don't read these books! Nora Robert's best writing is as JD Robb in this "In Death" series of some 30+ stories to date. I collect all of the JD Robb books, but skip the Roberts, whose stories are not as tight as those about Lt. Eve Dallas - ass kicker! If the future of New York City is like this, I fear these futuristic killers who are sneaky and complex.

#16 in the series - In many ways the best so far
Eve is after the Killer of a Young woman whose Body was found in a Dumpster.
The J.D. Robb "In Death" series are best when read in order - great series.
Eve tracks down a serial killer who likes to take pictures of his victums.
great book one of the books in j.d. robbs in death series
This is a great series of books!!
If it weren't for the average mystery of this novel, Portrait in Death would have received a 5/5. I loved how I got to learn more about Roarke. I really empathized with everything he was going through. The personal relationships are great as well. This is one of the few series that I care about what happens to every single character.
J.D.Robb is a nom-de-plume for Nora Roberts and she is always a good read.
Excellent series... my favorite of all time.
Roarke hears the story of his birth mother and it's not Meg. It's the heart of who Roarke is and it unfolds greatly!
was a little slow in spots, but overall was interesting, cops, murder, secrets, but what can u say about jd robb, shes good
Great!
Reading them all!! :)
Reading them all!! :)
When Reporter Nadine Furst receives photographs of a dead girl along with a message telling where to find her body, she immediately calls Lt. Eve Dallas. Eve investigates and soon finds herself on the trail of a serial killer who takes photos of his victims before disposing of them. Meanwhile, Roarke's world is shaken when he discovers the woman he thought was his mother really wasn't his mother at all.
This is another good mystery which, as usual, I didn't figure out whodunit. But what makes this story different from some of the others in the series is the change in circumstance for some characters. Roarke finding out the woman who abandoned him as a child really wasn't his mother leaves him wondering about his whole life. In the process he shuts out the two people he loves most, Eve and Summerset. Both Eve and Summerset are confused by his behavior and come together to help figure out what is happening to Roarke. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

Nora at her best!
Enjoyed this book very much...
Excellent book, am able to post it because I just got it in hardcover.
Loved this book and didn't really think I would. This is my first JD Robb, and it is a great can't put down read.
Eve Dallas is on the trail of an artistic killer. He kills three young people and she has to figure out why before he kills again.

These books are futuristic books and a great chance of pace.
Beware of who is watching and photographing you. Eve is on the trail of a killer who is a perfectionist and an artist. He carefully observes and records his victims every move.
Woderful, continuing saga of Lt Eve Dallas.
This is the 16th book of Nora Roberts 'In Death' series featuring Lieutenant Eve Dallas and cohorts. Another excellent read.
scary and gripping, holds the attention...
A book in the futuristic series. After a tip from a reporter, Eve Dallas finds the body of a young woman in a Dumpster on Delancey Street. Jut hours before, the news station had mysteriously received a porfolio of professional portraits of the woman. The photos seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary for any pretty young woman starting a modeling career. Except she wasn't a model. And the photos were taken after she had been murdered.
I swear they get better with every book. This one was no exception. Love these two. The crime part is good but it's really Roarke and Eve that make the book.
Couldn't put it down until I was finished reading it!
Features Lt. Eve Dallas of the New York Police in the year 2059.This time she is after a serial killer.
This is book #16 in Nora Roberts/JD Robb's "In Death" series.
Someone is sending Nadine Furst, Lieutenant Eve Dallas's friend and reporter, pictures of young men and women - pictures of them both before and after they are dead. Not every artist is in search of beauty.
Good story, typical for the series, but remarkable only in that you don't figure out who dunnit until the very last pages...a good job of obscuring the trail.
SPOILER alert!! This book is somewhat significant in the series as this is Eve & Roarke's 1st big bump in the road...Roark pulls away when family business crops up, shutting Eve out. This also marks the introduction, for later books, of some of Roarke's family - the one he wasn't aware of having at all until this installment of the series.

Never can say enough about Nora Roberts, without a doubt one of the greatest writers of our time. Reading about the life and times of Dallas, Rourke, Peabody and all the rest is quite an adventure. Can't wait to receive book 17!!
