Another book in Davis' masterful series, though it does suffer from some lapses in logic by our hero Falco. I still recommend it enthusiastically.

I LOVE Marcus Didius Falco! This book does a great job of letting us know our wise-cracking informer better, and we learn a lot about his family, too, including his father and his dead older brother. It's one of my favorites of the series so far, though really, I like them all!

Very nice continuation of the storyline. Advances Didius and Falco's relationship some and gives you some understading of Falco's past growing up. Nice addition to the series.

I loved this book! I enjoyed the interaction between Falco, his father, and (although dead), the hero brother. I like the way in which we gradually find out more and more about Falco's family. The plot was good, too.

After six months in wild Germania, imperial gumshoe Marcus Didius Falco is back in Rome sweet Rome. But his apartment has been ransacked. And although he desperately needs 400,000 sesterces in order to marry his aristocratic love, Helena, his only client is his mother, who insists that he find out whether the scandalous claims against his dead brother, Festus, are true.
Then the chief tarnisher of Festus's good name is murdered, and Marcus becomes the prime suspect. Someone is definitely fiddling with the scales of justice. The more Marcus hunts for the thread that will lead him out of this doom-laden labyrinth of misery and mystery, the less his life is worth. Except, as seems likely, as a meal for the Empror's hungry lions.....
