This is a book about grief and one person's efforts to cope with it. Sarah St. John loses her only son, Cully, skiing when an avalanche engulfs him. Others who were skiing with him survive because they are covered with fluffy light snow. Cully is buried under heavier wet snow and is lost.

With Cully's death, Sarah finds that she is changing. Her life is inraveling. Her job is no long interesting, she snaps at friends and family who try to help her cope with his death. Then a young woman enters her life - someone who was very close to her son. As she gets to know this young woman Sarah experiences conflicting emotions both positive and negative. She discovers there is much she did not know about her son. Can she accept this? She was so close to him. Readers will have to check this read out for themselves and make their own decisions.

For me this read was thought provoking. My life has been chaotic and depressing during the last two years. Like Sarah, I have had and continue to experience long periods of depression because of events beyond my control. Every effort made has seemed to make matters worse. Maybe now I can begin to understand what happened and move beyond them. I hope so.
