Helpful Score: 2
This book was great up until the end. The end was just absolute crap and sticks with the "formula" this author keeps using. She is continually killing off the bad guys with Scarpetta at the scene of the crime and it's just getting old. I mean really, how many times are serial killers just outright killed on the street instead of taken into custody? (And by a doctor no less?!?!) She tries to get all these facts into the books regarding forensics and crime and then makes an ending that is hurried and ridiculous. If the rest of the book weren't so well-written, I'd throw my hands up and quit reading this series. If the books continue to have such unoriginal endings, I probably will, because I expect authors to try some diversity in their storytelling instead of always having the villain killed by the heroine, who, in this story, is just a medical examiner. I mean really, how many M.E.s do we here about taking out bad guys like this one does? Good grief.
First book I\'ve read of hers, good book and great pageturner.
Patricia Corwell's series starring Kay Scarpetta as the Chief Medical Examiner is one of the best series of books I have read. Mysteries have never been my genre, but I love the CSI TV series and this book intrigues me in the same manner. Corwell is very knowledgeable and her writing style is descriptive and flowing as well as easy to read. Its not so packed with technical jargon that you cant sit and enjoy a nice quiet read without having to reach for a dictioary.
excellent read

This was a good story. It was interesting and I liked the characters. However the details about the murders were a little too much for me.
Another great book in the Scarpetta Series. Very cat and mouse with the killer and the pace is fast. A previous murderer that Scarpetta has worked forensically on --named Gault-- has targeted Kay as his ultimate kill.
One of Cornwell's best works.
"A compelling fast moving tale, written in a highly compressed style."

The sixth suspenseful thriller starring forensic pathologist Dr. Kay Scapetta, by the award-winning author of The Body Farm. While Scarpetta searches for clues to the identity of a young woman murdered by serial killer Temple Brooks Gault, the fiend claims his next victim--and manages to infiltrate the FBI's top secret artificial intelligence system.
ANOTHER GREAT SCARPETTA ADVENTURE!
Great book - holds you in suspense and you can't wait to know what happens next.
All about forensics~

I have read the entire Scarpetta series and have loved them all. This one is no exception.
Patricia Cornwell leads you into the chilling world of Dr. Kay Scarpetta, and keeps you on the edge of your seat as this thriller unfolds. Scarpetta is an action-heroine in this thrilling story of the old game of cat and mouse.
Another great forensic crime book. Exciting read.
This Scarpetta Book was one of my favorites (and I've read them all). She is very descriptive in this book in regards to the Potter's Field - which I found exciting. I couldn't put it down. I find that I respect her work ethic and her personality greatly. Awesome read!!!
Good shape, thanks!!
Patricia Cornwells Kay Scarpetta is a character who becomes addicting. Smart, Funny, brave, and tough she is a character who sticks with you, and you will find yourself wanting to read the whole series. Chapters are on the shorter side so the book is easier to digest.
Good twists and turns. Not warming to the characters, though.
Part of the Kay Scarpetta, Chief Medical Examiner of VA, series. Several of the CSI episodes on TV are based on this series. I say, start at the beginning... check patriciacornwell.com for a list of all the books in the series.

A Dr. Kay Scarpetta forensic novel. This plot implicates Scarpetta's nemesis Temple Brooks Gault. It leads Wesley, Marino and Scarpetta on a convoluted trail...is there any other kind in a Cornwell mystery?

Very good Scarpetta book...a little dark, but gripping. You learn more about her neice Lucy in this one. This is one of the reasons I love the Scarpetta series..her characters are so strong.
Not the very best from Cornwell, but it is good, and the mystery keeps you guessing.

Riveting book - a great read!
A female medical examiner and her male colleague/lover sort through the forensic evidence from the baffling murder of an unknown woman. It becomes apparent that the killer wants his next victim to be the medical examiner herself.
Enjoy Kay Scarpetta very much, especially with Marino.
Another great Scarpetta book.
Christmas Eve in Central Park--Temple Brooks Gault stands over his latest victim, washing his hands in the snow. Pleased with his new kill, he lifts the heavy steel door of an emergency exit and disappears into the fetid tunnels of the New York subway system.
In Richmond, Dr. Kay Scarpetta, chief medical examiner of Virginia and consultant for the FBI, is in the midst of a late-night autopsy at the morgue when the call comes: Gault, the sadistic psychopath who has eluded capture for years, has struck again. For Scarpetta, her worst nightmare returns... And Gault kills again, but the prey he ultimately seeks is Scarpetta, for it becomes increasingly apparent that he is as focused on her and she is on him.

A Dr. Kay Scarpetta Novel. She is Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia and consulting forensic pathologist for the FBI. In Potter's Field she examines a women found in snowbound Central Park and realizes it is the work of Temple Brooks Gault a killer she has run into before. She must descend into the madness of Gault's mind and go down into the subway system he calls home and confront him. Wonderful read! Her books I can never put down until I have finished them.
This book just didn't do it for me, and I was disappointed. The plot flows okay, but Cornwell's writing isn't to the standard I felt some of her other novels were. Some sections were downright unrealistic, and the ending was abrupt and ridiculous.
Hope others will enjoy it more than I did.
