As always, McCaffrey provides a great story! Beginning of the series with Yana being all but discarded by the "company" on the icy planet, Petaybee. She has many things to learn, get her health back and it the mist of all, she finds love. Great Read!
Having read mos tof Anne McCaffrey's books, this one left a little to be desired. For those of us who love Anne's books, this one falls a little short of what we have come to expect from her.
1st in a trilogy.about a sentient planet, indigenous peoples and outside powerful companies, clashing, with human shape changing just a few of the surprises.
Enjoyable sci fi novel. Not on the level of the Pern novels, but a fun read.
An interesting book. Standing alone it is only ok but when seen as the start of a series it seems very promising. Can't wait to read the next book and see how the story fills out.
So many of the Sci-Fi books out there these days have become too "hard core" for me. This one, however, is a great story that I found was really hard to put down once I started reading it! 250 years previously, the planet Petaybe had been terraformed so that the Company could establish a colony and start mining it for it's rich minerals. Since then strange things have been happening - some scientific teams sent to the planet have been lost or killed & no one knows why or how. Major Yanaba Maddock, a disabled combat veteran was sent to the planet to infiltrate the locals and find out whatever she could. Miraculously, with her relocation she started to regain her health and strength. What happens next will keep the reader enthralled and unwilling to put the book down. I highly recommend this book to all Sci-Fi enthusiasts!
