After reading this novel, I've read everything else I could find by Dennis Lehane, love his style! The main characters are private investigators with a lot of history between them.
Helpful Score: 3
Dennis LeHane is my favorite author and this book is very well written and a great read. Kenzie investigates the "suicide" of a former client who was perky and full of life when he knew her six months ago. He finds a sadistic stalker is involved.
Helpful Score: 2
intriguing mystery. well written.

Great book. Dennis Lehane also wrote Mystic River. This is his fifth book in the Patrick Kenzie/Angela Gennaro detective series. Good characters, set in Boston and surrounding areas.
Helpful Score: 1
Another great Patrick Kenzie/Angela Gennaro story. Author Lehane has come up with a suspenseful plot as the investigating team goes up against a pyschopathic stalker.

This is great series. Not lighthearted but a good realistic view of the dark side of crime and crime-solving. I want more of this series!!
One of Lehane's better efforts.
Great read - dark!
great book!
Lehane writes abnormal psychology books--entertaining abnormal psychology books! I enjoy them because I have lived theyah(the area he writes about)-or there in NON Bostonian English. And I've met a few of his characters in the flesh. Maybe not so over the top? I've met some that were even crazier if possible. His books are just fookin' great! Remember Scott Pearse is not a local character! ps. My husband knew a Scott Pearse but he wasn't like Lehane's nasty fellow! Thanks and keep reading!

This is a great page-turner, with seriously warped characters among both the good guys and the bad. I'll be looking for more from this author.

A good mystery with strange plot twists. Interesting characters. Overall, a good read, but not one of Lehane's best.
This was a great book. I haven't read any of his work before but will definitely be reading more.

I really enjoy his writing.
From the back of the book:
Karen Nichols was pert, blonde, in love with her fiance and her life when Patrick Kenzie first met her. But six months later, she jumped naked from Boston's Custom House, leaving behind a downward spiral of drug abuse, depression, and sexual misadventure. She was an utterly different woman - and Kenzie wants to know why.
What he finds is almost incomprehensible: a depraved stalker who carefully targeted Karen and slowly, methodically, exploited her every weakness, stripped away all that mattered to her, and then watched her self-destruct. Now as Kenzie and his former partner Angela Gennaro begin a psychological battle against a master sadist the law can't touch, they discover he's starting to learn their weaknesses, their loves - and he's determined to tear their world apart.

I really liked this book - first one I've read by this author. I was about 2/3 through it when I realized it was part of a series. I liked the main characters so much, I ordered the first two books in the series to find out how their stories got started. Exciting mystery!
I really like this author's writing style.
