I Live in Puerto Rico and I will say that I certainly NOT live in the Puerto Rico portrayed by this book. There is not a single sheriff in the whole island, because the police chief and/or its officers are not subject to popular vote. There are no precints since the police subdivisions are subject to the political division of the municipalities and these change every time there is a population census.
Shall I continue?
This book was written by what we puertorricans call a newyorrican, meaning a new yorker of puertorrican descent who has probably never been in puerto rico (well, maybe for a week's vacation or two).

love it...it brought me back to the island....even though full of crime and murder it made me home sick.
