Premonition, part of Ingermanson's "City of God" series, provides another fun, fast-paced exploration of what happens when you look at history with a lens of both science and faith. Set in AD 57 in Jerusalem, it's the story of a modern-era archeologist and her husband trapped in the first century by an errant physics experiment. With no knowledge of how to return to the 21st century, the protaganists (who have full knowledge of events that occur in the 1st century in Jerusalem) seek to make their way through the times and circumstances of a city they know is headed for disaster. Interesting premise. A real page-turner.
Interesting book. Appearently the second in a series but the author even says he "recommend reading Premonition first, because . . . it's a better book." Story is about an Amercian woman and an Isreali man from present day who have been trapped in first-centruy AD. She knows her history which allows her to predict some events . . . the reslut is she is viewed as a seer-woman; while he is knowledgable in physics and therefore can build contraptions that help the first-century jewish community. She is a Mesianic Jew, he is a non-believer. Her struggle revolves around knowing some bits of history yet being a woman in a patriacal community. His struggle lie with the desire not to make a mistake resulting in indecision and inability to act. interesting book from a historical point as well as a religious view. I would recommend to all readers.
I really enjoyed this novel, it is Christian fiction, following a modern-day couple living in ancient Jerusalem, right after Christ's death. I learned a lot more about the daily Jewish customs and have a greater understanding of Messianic Jews in particular. It's a good read, and it never hurts to feel like you have grown spiritually after reading a novel for fun!! If you are interested in this type of book, I also highly recommend reading Francine Rivers' Mark of the Lion trilogy ~ truly life changing.
