While most of the suggestions were good, I ended the book with a real feeling of a child enmeshed with their parent in an unhealthy way. Some of the suggestions crossed my boundaries of healthy parent/child relationships, such as: "when you and your husband are arguing, ask your son to pray for you", and "tell him to be the sheperd (leader) to his flock (group of friends)" (what if all the friends in the group are trying to be leaders, too?). A lot of the suggestions were between the mom and the son, but should have been modeled by the father and mother, not substituting the boy in the role of father - it felt like the son would continue serving the mom for the rest of his life, instead of switching over to a wife. She also talked a lot about how God made girls to be helpless princesses in need of protection and boys need to be their knights in shining armour to protect them, which, as a mom also raising a girl to be strong and independent, bothered me because that belief is cultural, not Biblical.

I thought a much better and balanced book on the subject was "That's My Son - How Moms Can Influence Boys To Become Men of Character" by Rick Johnson.
