The potential reader should be made aware before reading: DO NOT trust the back synopses for any of the books in this trilogy. It appears that the author pitched one version of the story to the publisher, changed plot points while writing, and the publisher did not change the back matter accordingly.

That said, this is a still a fun read - plenty of action, coupled with humor and analyses of various Star Trek characters that we've never really seen before. I would recommend this story to others!
