VERY good book. Entertaining, made me laugh out loud a few times with great combacks from Noah's sons. Good read all around.

if you enjoyed books like The Red Tent because of the "behind the scenes" of bible stories; this book is for you!
the story is what happens after noah is told by Yahweh that he has to build an ark.can you imagine what it was like having to tell your spouse something like that???
at times silly...at time sad...at times unbelievable but all in all a good read!

A very interesting perspective on the times of Noah (spelled "Noe" in this book per the 1914 Douay Bible, translated from the 1609 edition) and his family. If you've ever wondered what it might have been like to live through those 40 days and 40 nights, I highly recommend this novel! It fleshes out the stories of Noah, his sons, and their wives - all from their own unique viewpoints.

Good storyline. Lots of sex and language, only thing to look out for.

I really enjoyed this book. It gives a behind the scenes look at Noah & his family...how they actually got the animals, what the 40 days & 40 nights were like. HOWEVER, it's not something you would consider coming from anyone super religious...it's more of some guy's idea of what happened and developing a story, at times tawdry, about it. Not meant to be taken literally, but just something to think about from a very different perspective.
Interesting and witty book that tells the tale of Noah and the flood... from the family's perspective. However, this is NOT Christian fiction by any means. It's more Biblical fiction, with stress on the fiction. I read it as simply a good and, sometimes, funny story. If you're looking for something uplifting, or something with a Christian message... keep looking. If you're just looking for a unique diversion, you might want to give this book a read.

It's a funny, convincing amplification of the Biblical story.

The real story of Noah and the flood--with a lot of insight by Mrs. Noah. Some rough language.

This book was the first one I ordered from paperbackswap.com and I'm glad I did. The entire concept of fleshing out the Noah's Ark story sounded interesting to me. I enjoyed the fact that the author told the story from various viewpoints: Noah (or Noe as he's called in this story), this wife (poor thing never gets a name), their sons, and the sons' wives. This story really provided a human side to a Biblical story, showing that even the most revered are also flawed. The language does get surprisingly crude at times, but it also aides in showing how everyone is human when you come down to it (everyone from main characters to background characters are obsessed with sex). I found Mirn, the wife of Noe's youngest son, to be the most interesting character because as the youngest person there, she was often ignored, but she was much smarter than most of them gave her credit for (for instance- instructing everyone how to put the animals on the Ark so that the boat doesn't tip over and making sure the animals that eat each other aren't together). The other wives' are also shown to have strength and wisdom in their own right, and it was nice to see strong females emerge from a typically male-centric story.

A very different perspective of Noah, his family, and the ark than I had ever imagined. A very amusing read!

We all know Noah built a big boat, got some animals, then it rained.. a lot. A hilarious novel to fill in all of the missing details!

I picked this up on clearance by chance and it turned out to be a great find. The story of Noah and the ark I remember from Sunday school pales in comparison to this witty rendition that includes several points of view and lots of good humor.
This book opens with sexual encounters which are not loving but just sex. I tried to finish the book but just couldn't. This book was a disappointment.
This is a wonderful, witty retelling of the Noah and the Ark story. It follows Noah and his family through the building of the ark, the fetching of the animals and the voyage itself. There is incredible depth of character and storytelling here. Maine has followed the Bible story and embellished it based on his knowledge of the place and the time. It raises questions and answers some. If you like this, consider reading Fallen, the Cain and Abel story.
A fictional accounting of Noah's great task.I've always wondered how he managed to accomplish so much, and how they got through it. David Maines' imagination fit the bill perfectly.
I really liked reading Maine's take on the "Noah's Ark" story. It was interesting to see these characters come to life. Highly recommended.
This book is an irreverent view of Noah and his ark but feeds the imagination to wonder how this really took place.
Our book club read it and had a lively discussion about it.
