Lovely!!!!! This is my least favorite of the four she's written so far, but it is still spectacular. I feel as though I am reading Jane Austen. Bebris writes in her voice and cleverly starts each chapter with a quote from P&P that fits the chapter. It is everything I always wanted in a novel. It is Jane with mystery and love story. Unlike many other rewrites of Austen (most notable Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife), this is not a trashy romance that has lost all characteristics of Austen. Instead, it is a faithful extension of what may have been.

Pride and Prescience is not a bodice ripper (no offense to bodice rippers). First and foremost, if you're an Austen/Pride and Prejudice fan, you will be delighted not only at seeing your old friends Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy fresh off their wedding. It is the now Mr. and Mrs. Darcy returned for some good old fashioned intrigue. Elizabeth and Darcy work a mystery much like Nick and Nora Charles of The Thin Man fame.
The dark overtones of the supernatural give Pride and Prescience a gothic flavor. There is the typical mystery of "whodunit", as well as mystery of the supernatural and paranormal - - one which this reader found immensely intriguing.
I am not a Jane Austen fan or a reader of Historical or Regency Romances anymore. But I found this leftover lying around. So to reading I went. It was a little slow for me at first then became interesting. I read to read I do not try to analyze everything in the book [language, anachronisms, period details etc]. As I got further into the story I found I enjoyed it. This book in not high reading it wasn't very intellectual, but it caught the mood of the times. Yes, I figured out whodunit before the end even with all the red herrings.
So wrap yourself up in a cozy blanket, get a mug of steaming tea or chocolate and settle in for a fun read.

A fun read! If love the world that Jane Austen created with Pride & Prejudice, you'll love this series by Carrie Bebris. Getting to follow Darcy and Elizabeth into their married life is a treat. A mixture of romance and mystery, Bebris weaves a fun tale that stays true to Austen's original work.

Fabulous page turner with Elizabeth and FitzWilliam Darcy as the solvers of mysterious murders!! I cannot recommend this highly enough as light reading for Austen and myster fans.

Cute and very true to what and how Jane wrote, a great addition to the Austen genre. Fun twists of characters that we all know and love (or love to loathe), with just enough clues revealed to keep you guessing whodunit. Plus, it's nice to hear both Elizabeth AND Darcy's point of view, along with standard Third Person. A nice start to the series!

Just finished reading this "first in the series" of Carrie Bebris' Jane Austen "sequels" - all of which are mysteries with a bit of the supernatural thrown in. The time-line of this book takes up where Austen's Pride and Prejudise ends, after the Darcys' marriage.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and just ordered the second in the series - Suspense and Sensibility. What I liked most about the book was not necessarily the story itself, but rather the writing. Ms. Bebris definitely has a gift for prose and does a wonderful job replicating the tone of the time period in which the novel takes place.
The plot was interesting, though on a couple of occasions, I found myself wishing it had gone in a bit different direction. I always enjoy a good mystery but am not a big fan of science fiction, so I am hoping that the plot of the second in the series does not drwell too heavily upon the mystical or supernatural element. Had there been any more of that element in Pride and Prescience, I'm not sure I would have enjoyed the book as much.
But like I said, the author's great talent for writing is what has driven me to want to read another book in the series. This series has gotten strong reviews from both the professionals and the reading public, so I am hopeful of having a new series to pursue, myself.
