This is the first book I've read by Steve Alten. Hope the others he's written are as good. Plan to read more from him.
The first in this series was pretty good, the second even better, and this one improves upon both. Thanks to the independent subplots, it almost felt like I was reading 2 or even 3 parallel novels at the same time without getting lost or confused by it. # 4 is already on my to-be-read pile. (# 4, "Hell's Aquarium", is currently the last in the series, although Steve Alten keeps hinting at a 5th - oh, and a prequel novella is out there, but only for electronic reader.)
I thought they dragged it out a bit could have been much shorter and still would be an exciting, thriller about Jonas Taylor, a paleobiologist who crossed paths with Megalodon eighteen years ago. Now he is middle-aged, with teenage children and a wife---strunggling to pay his bills. When he is made an offer he can't refuse but will live to regret. For those readers who love scary, action-filled scenes...they will love it.
Another great scary shark story, the megalodon 'Angel' on the loose. This will grab you from the beginning and keep you on the edge to the end. Even if you don't read about the Jonas Taylor family from the beginning each book is it's own story, there are references to the other books but you won't be lost and it will make you want to read all of the them as soon as you can get them!
I actually enjoyed this shark book quite a bit. Parts of it were a little dumb, but overall, it was an exciting, shark-full read that was very adventurous. There's not much to say, as this was a straight-forward book. I will definitely keep an eye out for his other books - they are quite thrilling and great for summer.

This book was an engaging read and a revisit of familiar and well-developed characters. Those who enjoyed Jaws and Meg:A Novel of Deep Terror will enjoy this book.
This book is the third in a series. It is a fast paced, quick read. I enjoyed it.
This latest novel in Alten's MEG adventure-thriller series concerns a 57-foot, 64,000-pound prehistoric shark loose in the South Pacific. The "most fearsome creature in the sea," the Megalodon shark has ruled the planet's oceans for millions of years, surviving the cataclysms that wiped out the dinosaurs and adapting to climate changes that devastated other prehistoric marine species. Alten begins with an informative description of the Pacific Ocean and its inhabitants, the Monterey Bay off California, and the islands of New Guinea and its surrounding waters.
Just when you thought you could go back in the water - the Megalodon puts the Great White shark to shame!
Exciting but overall repetitious. Should have stopped after the first two books.
Not saying you have to read the first books in the series but this book does refer back to previous events in prior books that can be confusing as they are not explained in great detail. The books carries four subplots that never get in the way of each other and all three work well within the story to reinforce each other. Three modern story lines and one setup story happening in the late Pleistocene period of history. Once the carnage from the Megs (yes, multiple Megs,hence the three modern story lines)attacks start it is one attack after another for the entire book, surprisingly it doesn't get repetitious as each attack is a mini-story unto itself. Good read, looking forward to my next book by the author.
It was the most fearsome creature that ever lived--a 70 foot, 70,000 pound great white shark. Hundreds of 7-inch long serrated teeth filled jaws that could swallow an elephant whole. It could sense its prey miles away, inhaling its scent as it registered the beat of its fluttering heart, and if you were close enough to see the monster, it was already too late. The shark attack scenes are numerous and exciting. An adventure pitting man against beast!
