This was one of my first smut books and I loved it. I just reread it and still love it! S.T. is a great hero. What I love about Laura Kinsale is that she gives her heroes flaws. S.T. is so endearing trying to be the dashing highwayman he used to be. However, he has balance problems and has trouble even standing up quickly, let alone swinging his sword. The heroine sometimes gets on my nerves because she is so hateful and unappreciative of S.T.'s attempts to help her. But S.T.'s charm more than makes up for it. Still an enjoyable book after all these years. This book has a permanent spot on my favorites shelf.

I disliked this book and had to force myself to finish it. The hero, S.T. Maitland is a likeable guy. An aging highwayman with infirmities due to an explosion. The heroine, Leigh Strachan, is irritating, rude and aggravating beyond measure. The interplay between the two should have been good but she is just bitchy. All in all, something to be skipped at all costs. Definitely not worth reading.

Laura Kinsale's books are alway different. Loved this one about a Highwayman who was injured and a woman after revenge. Good one.

A flawed hero with a secret. Classic Kinsale.
This is one of my favorite romance books. A desert island keeper.
Perhaps my favorite Kinsale. A Robin Hood Regency hero must convince the a strong heroine that he is up to saving her.
wonderful book -twists and turns galore in classic Kinsale style.
S.T. Maitland, a legendary English highwayman--dangerous and larger than life--has been brought to his knees by an explosion which renders him deaf in one ear and racked by sudden, debilitating bouts of vertigo that leave him staggering, nauseous and wretched. S.T. exiles himself to a decrepit French castle to lick his wounds and mark his days in monotonous anonymity with his only companion, a strange half-wild, half-tame wolf named Nemo. Into this suspended life comes Leigh Strachan, a damaged but beautiful young woman bent on avenging the deaths of her parents and sisters. She seeks the Prince of Midnight to aid her in her plans for revenge. What she finds is not her Seigneur de Minuit, but a shattered hero of the night, seemingly incapable of helping either her or himself
Laura Kinsale's books are always beautiful and unusual. This is one of her very best, involving two very complex characters and a truly exciting plot. The romance evolves and changes and weaves a spell that haunts the reader long after finishing the book. A subplot dealing with a cult-like religious group in 18th century England adds interest and an exotic tone. I highly recommend this book.
a desperate English girl, has traveled alone across most of England and France in search of him... Monseigneur du Minuit: The Prince of Midnight. Leigh has lost her loved ones and is desperate and determined to track down and kill the man responsible for the murder of her family. She feels sure that this man known as the Prince of Midnight is the only one that can help her. However, when she does finally come upon him, he is nothing that she was lead to believe. She believed him to be dashing and dangerous, just as the legend of him claimed. What she truly finds is a troubled, lonely, dreamy exile.
Left with no other choice, she accepts his offer of help and together they make their way back to where Leigh once lived, but what is now a town under the control of a madman. The same man that killed her family.
Leigh and S.T.(her prince)face many obstacles and some of them were quite shocking, but when the book finally does come to an end, it is unbearably sweet.

They called him the Prince of Midnight - a legendary highwayman, once dashing and dangerous ... now a tarnished, forgotten hero, exiled and alone.
She sought his fabled skills in the ruins of a french castle - a proud and desperate English beauty, drawn to the myth ... but bewildered by the man.
Across perilous mountains and tempestuous seas, together they pursued their seperate dreams - of vengeance, of passion, of glory reborn ... kindling the all-consuming fires of a blood and unexpected love that would set the midnight skies magnificently ablaze.
Laura Kinsale is a fabulous writer and I think you will enjoy this book!
