I like to always have one purely entertaining book (as opposed to research/work) that I can sit down and enjoy with a cup of tea to de-stress. This book was perfect! It's split up into sections and each story is both entertaining in itself and characters move from generation to generation. There is a lot of interesting history woven into it and it's extra fun if you've been to Dublin.
I love Rutherfurd because he makes history fun! This book (and its sequel) should be 'required reading' for anyone planning a trip to Ireland - or anyone who love to drink green beer on St. Patricks' Day!
Excellent, excellent book chronicling the turbulent history of much misunderstood Ireland. Abounds with period detail. A true portrait of life at the time, with an added debunking of certain myths and stereotypes about the beautiful emerald isle.
Interesting, but hard to follow.
