One of Danielle Steel's shorter stories. It had a darker tone than most of her stories, and the ending felt extremely rushed. Not a must-read, but with a more interesting plot than a lot of her more recent novels.

Excellent reading..very good book

This story is a about a promise two lovers make when they are young. Then a tragic accident occurs. Lies are told; they believe them b/c they have no reason not to. The begin separate lives, yet their hearts never forget the magic, the love they felt. Their lives always seem empty; one yearning for the lost love. The other angry at the lost love. The story will touch your heart.

This has always been my favorite Danielle Steel book. It doesn't have the usual stock storyline and is much shorter than many of her novels. The storyline is heartbreaking but, overall, it is a beautiful love story.

Early danielle Steel romance
Loved this story.
"The Promise" is one of Ms. Steel's best works. A quick read and wonderful for a day at the beach.
