This is a good story. The author's character development was very good, especially considering "pilgrims" in the colonies and territories were foreigners with diverse backgrounds and cultures. Looking forward to the next in the series. Kay C.

Promises, Promises is a quick, sweet and inspirational read. Raelene Strattford suffers a loss most of us would be unable to bear: the loss of both parents in the same accident. Now, she must work the family's newly bought farm or lose the land and her home, all at the age of seventeen. Gustaf Hanssen promised Raelene's father that he would help her and take care of her in the time that follows her loss. He honors his word and does everything he can to help Raelene accomplish her parents' dreams. Will it be enough to prove to her that his love is true?

At first, I had a hard time even liking Raelene. She seemed to stubborn and ungrateful of everyone's help. As the story continued though, she got better and it was worth pulling through those first 50 or so pages. This was a story of someone who was dealt a crippling blow and how she turned her back on God but came back to Him when she realized she could not do it on her own. This was a very good read.
