I have enjoyed all the books in this series. They are all on my keeper shelf. This one dealt with the heroine overcoming her abused past to find the courage and strength to be happy and loved. There were some graphic abuse/rape scenes including flashbacks and I found this to be an emotionally moving book.

Jenna was such a beaten down women at the beginning of the book. It was great to watch her change and learn to trust again with help from Clint

I wanted to like Promises Prevail, but I just couldn't connect with the characters. I thought Clint was a jerk (at first anyway) and even though there was a very valid reason why Jenna was submissive, I wasn't able to empathize with her. I skimmed all of the sex scenes and just wanted to know how the resolution of her past was going to be played out. The abuse was hard to read, but the story had a nice ending. However, I don't plan on reading anymore books in the Promises series.

Another good story in the Promises series and Cougar(book 2) and Asa (book 1) both show up fairly often, esp Cougar. Jenna was in an abusive marriage and is used to being extremely submissive and afraid of men/sex so that them is throughout this book. some scenes are just wrenching..at least 2 scenes she 'loses' it and bites/fights/tried to kill out of sheer terror. This one deals with some extreme abuse in flashbacks and again in the suspenseful part..I knew there would be a HEA but even so I was so angered at a few scenes that I could've started fighting myself! She's strong and does her best to overcome though she kept things from her husband that proved to be crucial. Glad I read it but it DOES mention abuse like severe biting/whippings/cuts (not by Clint though!)
Enjoyable historical western romance featuring a severely abused widow learning to trust again. Although I felt an emotional connection between Jenna and Clint, I thought the addition of an abandoned baby to bring them together was, and remained, thin throughout the story. The highlight of this tale was by far the way Clint earned Jenna's trust, and the revelation of her abuse, which brought much depth to her character. The writing felt a little stilted and certain plot elements and characters left me hanging, but overall this was a decent read. 3.5 stars.
yep, just what i thought-another great book! now on to book #4!
