The older I get and the more I read, the more easily bored I am by some murder mysteries. I suspect one of the problems is that I like cozies. I don't want to "see" a lot of blood and gore. I don't want to experience a lot of stress. I want to be interested and curious, not frightened.
I've come to realize mysteries need to have several facets. Plot is only one. This series has 2 things in its favor: a very interesting and colorful ambiance, based in Cambridge, MA and much discussion about the beliefs, actions, and concerns of Quakers.
I really enjoyed reading it and have just ordered the other 3 books in the series.
It's been a long time since the author wrote for this series. Something may have happened in her personal life OR she may just have not felt she had anything more to offer along these lines. I can only wish ALL authors felt a compulsion to quit while they were ahead and the series was still good.

This book provides a really interesting look at a Quaker community through the eyes of Elizabeth Elliot, who is leader of the congregation. She shows wisdom and maturity in her advise and conduct - but really faces a challenge when murder enters the community and Elizabeth is the chief suspect.

An average mystery. Interesting Quaker info but a little too much on the IRS, passive resistance, and tax. However, that was what the story was about so I guess it was necessary. A nice main character and not too bad mystery.
