Very good book. I got this book from PBS just to try something different. I found that it was the first of many in this series after I had the book in my hands. I am for sure going to find the rest of the books in this series.
The way that Sarah and Sylvia come to be more then just employer and employee. To see both of them grow and learn from each other and to see them become very good friends. To listen in on all the family history that Sylvia has to impart to explain why she is still mad at her sister in law and then to come to terms with her past and to again connect with her sister in law was really good.
I also liked the quilting references although I am not a quilter. I found myself reading instead of watching the TV or movies we had rented this was such a good book and so well written that I just did not want to put it down. Now I have to see if I can find the next book in the series so I can see what will happen next to this wonderful bunch of people.

The first in a series of books about an older woman Sylvia and a younger woman Sarah . It takes place in an old victorian home after Sylvia's sister dies. The author incredibly weaves a wonderful story involving quilting and the history of the time. It is a MUST read book but beware you wont want to PUT IT DOWN!!! For a synopsis and look at all the books in the series go to www.elmcreek.net.
I really enjoyed this book. I am delighted to have found a new series to read. This is the first book in a series of 14, so far...
An elderly woman comes back to her family home and hires a young man and his wife to help her put the grounds and house back in order. She developes a friendship with the wife through teaching her to quilt. The wife helps the older lady regain some friendships with local people that she has be estranged from for many years.
I won't tell you the ending...but it's really great...and launches you into wanting to read the next one as soon as you can get your hands on it! :)

I became addicted to Jennifer Chiaverini's Elm Creek Quilts series. I ADORE them and can't put them down! A MUST read for anyone, not just quilters!

This was a pleasant story... Not an extremely sophisticated story, but a nice read. It's a story about friendship between two unlikely characters. Some of the situations in the book were over-simplified, but if you can overlook that, you'll enjoy the story. I didn't realize that this book was the first in a series, until I completed the book. I will check out the rest of the series.
