The concept of this book is simplistic quilts made from japanese-inspired prints. In some quilts, a large icon in the fabric, such as an apple blossom or an iris, is showcased in the quilt, but in more cases the prints are so tiny that they are virtually indistinguishable from any other small motif. The quilts themselves are quite simplistic, consisting primarily of hexagons and triangles. There is some artful quilting in some. I think simplicity is the point of the author's efforts, in keeping with the Japanese Zen tradition.
There is a single striking quilt in this book; "Fifty-Four Forty or Fight" on page 40, but even this is a simple Ohio star pattern.
All in all, there isn't a lot to recommend this book. If you're interested in some stunning examples of Japanese quilting, look up Setsuko Segawa's work instead.
