Set in the mid 1950's at Radcliffe College for Women. Four young freshman girls meet as room mates coming from very diverse backgrounds and become friends. They join a reading club at a local bookstore lead by a woman living her dream of owning a bookstore and enlightening young women to explore possibilities in their lives. The four young women each have a story which was interesting; however, I found it unusual that one of the group was so extremely rigid in her thoughts on right, wrong, the role of men & women at that time. Having been born at that time, I guess I missed the women are objects to be controlled, work only at home and have children, etc. Very good read with an uplifting ending.
