This is an account of the biggest tsunami in US history which hit Crescent City, California in March 1964. While the main story is interesting, the lead in and lead out of the exciting events during the tsunami are rather dry and sometimes boring. I found there was way too much information about tsunamis and earthquakes in general that did not really enhance the story, but rather gave the reader information overload. Still, it is a fascinating historical event that was fairly well told. Perhaps it simply suffers by comparison to the far superior book "The Great Deluge" by Douglas Brinkley which chronicles Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, that was a more recent, more far-reaching and therefore more interesting story.

I never knew about this until I read the book - a true story.
