I was so happy to see another book written with this character in it!! I also never knew there are so many ways to describe a texas sunrise and sunset!! his writing is magical to read its so good. I will agree that 600 some pages was a bit long, but all the plot points ended nicely tied up. Even so, I could not put this lengthy book down til I had finished it!

This book is Classic James Lee Burke. If your a fan of his books, this is a keeper. He gives you insight into all of his main characters,as usual. The novels are a joy to read.

Hackberry Holland is my kind of character. He is not one hundred percent good; he has enough flaws to make him real, someone you feel might exist in your own circle of life. His dedication, determination, and desire to do for others, to right a wrong, to avenge someone he cares for---these things make him someone you can admire, in spite of his "warts".
I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery/thriller.

did not finish--too much of everything I don't like in a book--too much description, way too long and slooooooooooooow, just couldn't go any farther than 170 pages
