Depicts the life of the beautiful Isabel of Hainaut, France's first Queen, her stormy marriage to King Philippe-Auguste, and his antagonistic relationship with Richard the Lionhearted of England and captures the milieu of twelfth-century France.
Not what I was expecting. It has it's moments but none of the characters were likable. I understand they are based on real people but still.
It was grim reading. I couldn't put it down for all its depressing atmosphere. It was interesting to get inside their heads.
