After reading review after review, and seeing all the group debates over this series, I finally gave in. It was not what I was expecting at all. It has a true suspense story line, Cynthia is hired to find a kidnapped vampire by Raphael, The Lord of this territory. And in the process, gets attacked, betrayed, and falls hard for the gorgeous Vampire. The cast of characters surrounding Raphael are a great addition to the plot. They are each charming or evil in their own way, depending on the side they fall in. But the passion between Raphail and Cynthia, and her willingness to defy him, is what drives to story. Will they wind up together? Unfortunately that is the cliff-hanger at the end and now I must immediately download the next book to find out what happens. I am now hooked.

Looking for your next hot vampire read?
I found the setting amusing somehow the whole vampires hanging out in the fun in the sun with the rich and infamous seems a bit incongruous. The author made it work.
In some ways this made me think of The Vampire Shrink by Lynda Hilburn. Raphael had the same feeling of spooky cool that Devereux does. And his relationship with the heroine, Cyn, bubbles with the same intensity. Also, the politics of being the vampire Master swirl with murky shadows, ruthless power games, and death in the same way.
Cyns a great character. If shed been locked in a tower shed have cut off her OWN hair and climbed down then gone looking for the witch.
Possible Spoiler:
This is the only book Ive read in this series so I may be wrong but I have a feeling that the relationship between Raphael and Cyn is going to be the series arc because the situation is not resolved at the end of this one. The book plot has closure but the romance plot does not. It did give me enough that I will read the next one
