When Alice Ozma was in 4th grade, she and her father decided to see if he could read aloud to her for 100 consecutive nights. I thought this was an excellent book in support of reading aloud. It dealt not so much with the books that Alice and her father read, but more about the relationship that grew from "The Streak". The author's sense of humor comes through her recounting of the life she had with her single-dad and sister. As a mom who read aloud to her children nightly, I'm a strong proponent of this activity and all it's positive side-effects. My children are all readers, and I'm so proud to have given them this gift of reading aloud and spread the love of reading to them. I'm going to pick some of the books included in Alice's reading list at the end of the book and read them now.

I enjoyed this book; based on the author's early life. Divorced librarian father raises two daughters. Apparently he doesn't do well with relationships but builds a strong bond with his younger daughter in a reading challenge. "The Streak" lasts for many years - right up until the time she leaves for college. Enjoyed reading about others who cherish the act of reading: whether to others or enjoying a good book themselves. Good read.

Alice and her Dad, Jim, started a reading streak, where he would read to her, that lasted for 3,218 nights. It was difficult at times, but they managed to always find the time to do it.
Jim was an excellent librarian. There was a divorce between him and his wife and Jim was raising two daughters on his own.
Obviously he had a great love for books that he was able to pass on to at least one daughter, Alice.
The chapters are wonderful. Alice gives us the time table and a quote to lead each one. Usually the quote will fit in very nicely with the chapter.
This book was a pleasure to read and at the end, there is a contract to consider using to promise to read to, read with or just read and to protect that right and pleasure.
This book actually reinforced for me my love and defense of my love of books and all of the pleasure and joy that I feel about books and the learning and fun that they can bring. Joy to Alice Ozma!!!

A heartwarming tale that both inspires and reminds me of what is truly important in raising children.

This isn't great literature, but does every book have to be? It is a very sweet story of a daughter and her father who love books and their time together reading them. They get to know each other through this daily ritual of reading together each day. It brings out the power that books have of bringing those who read them, together.I am very glad that I read this book and I only found it by being a member of PBS. For that I am grateful.
