Wow what a journal! This is a great, true adventure journal. Dick Proenneke makes entries into his journal for years relating his hikes, trials, weather details and his everyday life events as he lives for years in the Alaska wilderness at the edge of Twin Lakes. Don't plan on reading this book overnight or even in a week. In the past 2 years I have read and re-read this book as it can take me away from my everyday life and transport me to a far away harder yet simplier life. I can smell the biscuits, beans and oatmeal written into every entry. Today I keep this book at my bedside and now and again I open to todays date just to remember what Dick was doing around that time of year so many years ago. Well wriiten, again journal entry style without complete sentences true to his writting style. Love this book!
